I am a freelance journalist reporting from Turkey since 2010.
I have filed hundreds of FOIA requests in Turkey, sued the government twice over denied requests, and won both cases.
I have been a regular contributor to The New York Times for the past decade, written for the Guardian and NBC News, and worked on documentaries for the BBC and DW.
My work spans investigations, breaking news, and features, including reporting that contributed to The New York Times's Pulitzer Prize-winning coverage of Gaza and Israel's intelligence failures in 2024.
Earlier in my career, I reported for Turkey's Radikal newspaper and received awards for my urban, environmental, and corruption reporting. I work a lot with spreadsheets, public data, and network mapping.
I am a graduate of Columbia Journalism School and Brown University.
I also have a 1.5-year-old named Leyla.
